Bilingual Education

Bilingual education refers to the instruction of students in more than one language (typically their native language and a nonnative language). On this website, you’ll get to explore the history and current state of bilingual education within the United States, what kinds of bilingual education we have, some of the many benefits of this instruction, and some of the myths about it. You’ll also get to learn more about these programs’ sociolinguistic importance!

This website was created by Mary Cheney, Piper Giannini, Victoria Lambinicio, Cristina Montemorano, and Rebecca Young as part of a sociolinguistics project completed at the University of Mary Washington in Fall of 2019.
